Here at the Testing Center, we have some guidelines and policies we want you to know about. Some really don't need
mentioning but we have posted them here, just to make sure you know them.
Information for BYU Students
The following information applies for BYU students taking a classroom test.
If you are not a BYU student or are not taking a classroom test, you
can jump to our non-BYU student seciton.
Academic Dishonesty
As a student at Brigham Young University you are bound by the Honor Code to conduct your life ethically and honorably.
Additionally, for you own happiness and well-being, we hope that you will avoid any behavior which could be considered
dishonest. For purposes of the Testing Center, we consider the following to be academically dishonest:
Copying from another person's work during an examination.
Allowing someone to copy from you during an examination.
Using unauthorized materials during an examination.
Taking an examination for another or permitting another to take an exam for you.
Obtaining or providing to another an un-administered test or answers to an un-administered test.
Removing or attempting to remove a test, its answers, or any portion thereof from the Testing Center
Consistent with the expectations of the University Honor Code, individuals caught engaging in any of the above-described
behaviors will be referred to the Honor Code Office and to their instructor for appropriate disciplinary action.
What You'll Need to Take a Test
Before you come to take your test, make sure you have the following:
Your Student ID card or a government-issued ID card. We can't take Credit Cards as ID.
If you are taking a Multiple Choice test, a #2 pencil. If you don't have a #2 pencil, you may purchase a
pencil at the Testing Center for 30¢. We do not have pens available for sale.
Any other materials necessary for your test as authorized by your teacher. You will not be able
to use any materials which your teacher did not authorize. Also, you will not be allowed to go out to get
anything you have forgotten once you check out your test. If you need to get something, get it before you
come.
Late fees. Some teachers allow an extra day for their tests to be taken if their students
pay a late fee. If you take a test during on a late day, you will be charged the late fee.
Please ask your teacher how much the late fee will be.
The correct date and times for your test. You can find out when your test will be administered through
the Deadlines page. Please note any special end dates for your test
(for example, tests can end at 2:00 pm on the last day) and be aware they represent the last possible time when
you can start your test and not the time you need to be finished.
Plenty of time to take your test. Please note the time the Testing Center closes
(click here to view our hours). You will not be allowed to stay and finish your test
after the Testing Center closes. You certainly you will not be allowed to take the test home to finish it and
return it in the morning. When our clock says it's time to close, all tests will be collected.
As a reminder, please make sure you observe all Dress and Grooming standards. If you are violating BYU's
Dress and Grooming standards or BYU's Honor Code, we will not allow you to take or finish your test. The BYU
Administration has also asked us to report to the Honor Code Office any violation of the BYU Honor Code that occurs
in the Testing Center.
Calculators and PDA's
We are aware of the increasing number of students using PDA's. Since these devices are capable of storing almost any
type of data, you cannot use your PDA unless your teacher has classified your test as open book. If the
test you are taking is not open book, you are not allowed to use your PDA for any reason, not even as
a calculator. If you need a calculator for your test, we will be happy to provide one for you for 50¢.
Charges
Any money we charge (whether it be for a late fee, pencil, calculator, etc.) will be automatically charged to your
University Financial Account. We no longer accept cash or Signature cards. Once our charges have been posted
on your Financial Account, you will be able to pay via Credit Card or Electronic check. To access your Financial
Account, go to Route Y and select School > Financial Center.
